Written about the year 400, the Rule of Saint Augustine is one of the earliest guides for religious life. The Commentator, Blessed Alphonsus Orozco, O.S.A., confessed that he turned to the Apostolate of the Pen at the expressed command of the the Mother of God. After his death, his writings were offered in evidence of the author's sanctity and orthodoxy. He was beatified by Pope Leo XIII on January 15, 1882.
